Athletic field turf cleaning

Urine does not sit on the fiber. It runs down the blade, into the infill, and stays there. A hose pushes it deeper. Watering an unwashed field traps organic matter instead of carrying it off. The surface looks right for a week, then the heat comes back and so does the smell.

That is when it stops being a grounds issue. A dog park odor complaint does not go to the crew. It goes to a council member, and it comes back down as a work order with a name attached. The same is true for a game field the week of a home tournament.

There is a capital side too. Organic buildup in the infill works against the surface you paid for, and a synthetic field is a multi-year capital asset, not a consumable. Cleaning it on a schedule protects the replacement date.

The fix has to get past the fiber, break down what is in there, and not leave a residue that pulls dirt back in.

Who we are

OxyTurf started in 2021 out of a synthetic turf installation business. The problem was ours before it was a product. We were the ones going back out on the odor calls.

Since then the brand has grown from a regional fix into a national line, and its founder is a member of the Synthetic Turf Council. We co-brand with SYNLawn and we manufacture private-label turf cleaners for other names in the category, including K9 Klean by ForeverLawn.

We also run OxyTurf Labs, our hygiene testing division using ATP surface verification, the same measurement used in food service. Swab a surface, read a number in about ten seconds, and you have a before-and-after record instead of an opinion.

Synthetic turf has no cleanliness standard today. Pools have one. Beaches have one. Food service has one. Turf does not. Through OxyTurf Labs we are building the methodology to change that, so a defensible clean becomes something your department can measure, not just claim.

The chemistry

Oxygen,
not enzymes

Enzyme cleaners work on the clock. They need the right temperature, the right dwell, and hours a short-staffed crew covering acreage does not have. Cold morning, cool product, slow result.

OxyTurf is built on enhanced hydrogen peroxide. It oxidizes. It foams as it works, which is how a crew can see coverage in real time across a large surface, and it carries down through the fiber into the infill instead of sheeting off the top.

Then it goes away. The peroxide breaks down into oxygen and water in about 10 minutes. No bleach. No ammonia. No rinse on a maintenance pass, so the crew sprays and moves to the next site. On a deep clean, follow with a hose to drive it through every layer.

One thing to be clear about, because it matters in a spec. OxyTurf is not an EPA-registered disinfectant and makes no disinfection claims. It is the cleaning and deodorizing step of a field maintenance plan, the step that comes first in every plan that has one. If your spec also calls for a registered product, ours runs ahead of it, not instead of it.

Questions we get from departments

Is OxyTurf a turf disinfectant?

No. OxyTurf is not EPA-registered and makes no disinfection claims. It is an oxygen-powered cleaner and deodorizer built specifically for synthetic turf. In a field maintenance plan, cleaning comes first, and that is the step we do. If your spec also requires a registered product, apply ours ahead of it so the surface is actually clean when the next step runs.

Are you on a cooperative purchasing contract?

Not today. At the dollar level most departments spend on cleaning consumables, you usually do not need one: this sits under the direct-award threshold in most jurisdictions and goes on a purchase order or a department P-card. We are set up for exactly that, and we send the W-9, certificate of insurance, and safety data as one packet so vendor registration takes a single pass. If your policy requires a cooperative vehicle, tell us which one and we will tell you straight whether we can get there in your timeline.

How do parks departments buy turf cleaner in bulk?

Freight sizes are not sold through checkout. Submit the form on this page or the wholesale account application and we quote the product plus freight to your yard, itemized so you see shipping before you commit. Pallet quantities of gallons ship the same way.

How much turf cleaner does an athletic field or dog park need?

Roughly 500 sq ft per gallon on routine maintenance, roughly 200 sq ft per gallon on heavy-use or pet-saturated areas. Apply, let it dwell about 10 minutes, and once the foam subsides the area is ready. Maintenance passes need no rinse; deep cleans get a hose-follow to drive it through every layer. Send us your square footage and we will size an annual quantity for your budget request.

Will it affect the turf, the infill, or our warranty?

It is formulated for synthetic turf fiber and works on common infills including sand and rubber. There is no bleach, no ammonia, and no acid, and the peroxide breaks down into oxygen and water in about 10 minutes, so nothing accumulates in the infill over repeat applications. It is safe for use around kids and pets when used as directed. We are not the warranty holder, so always check your manufacturer's maintenance guidance, but SYNLawn sells this formula under their own label and we manufacture the K9 Klean line for ForeverLawn. Tell us your system and infill and we will send what we have.

Does it change GMAX or affect a playground inspection?

Cleaning and deodorizing is a surface-level step. It is not a shock-attenuation treatment, it does not add or remove infill, and we make no claim about GMAX values or CPSI inspection outcomes either way. Testing and remediation for impact attenuation stay with your testing provider. Where we do help is the part inspectors and residents notice first: organic buildup and odor in the infill.

Can I get an SDS and a vendor packet?

Yes. Current safety documentation is available on request through the form, and our safety data page is public. If you need it on letterhead for a submittal, or bundled with our W-9 and certificate of insurance for vendor registration, say so in the form and we send the whole packet together.

Do you work with municipal parks and school districts?

The people who install and maintain this turf for a living have used it for years, and national turf brands sell it under their own names. On the public-grounds side we are onboarding departments now, which means you get us at the point where we build the program around your sites rather than hand you a catalog. A department evaluation is a sample gallon on your worst site, full safety documentation, and an ATP swab protocol through OxyTurf Labs so your first pass generates its own before-and-after record.

What do we apply it with?

Standard equipment your crew already owns: backpack sprayer, pump sprayer, or a tank-and-wand rig for large areas. No proprietary applicator to buy and no metering system, because there is nothing to dilute. Tell us your acreage and we will size the equipment and the annual quantity together.
